This note provides context on (and examples of) the impact of Copycats — companies that replicate business models that proved successful in more developed economies — on the startup ecosystem of developing economies, as well as pragmatic guidance to entrepreneurs interested in pursuing the model, with a focus on aspects related to ideation, team formation, and financing. Lastly, it covers some of the risks and challenges involved in this approach.
