The use of AI-based technologies in logistics has the potential to reduce operating costs, increase efficiency and service levels, and improve quality of life for some. Yet many hurdles to adopting such technologies, both technical and otherwise, still remain.
On February 1, 2023, the Value Chain Innovation Initiative, in collaboration with Associate Professor Kuang Xu, hosted the executive workshop “Transforming Logistics With AI.” Close to 80 industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and academics attended the half-day event, which explored the use of artificial intelligence in shipping, warehousing, fulfillment, and e-commerce delivery.
Conference speakers agreed that these applications of AI, some in development for years, are showing promise in tests and with early customers. Speakers highlighted the benefits these applications provide to businesses and customers alike. Discussions also revolved around some of the challenges companies in this field face, including public concerns over the displacement of human workers.
