Organization

Serving the Stanford campus, the Bay Area community, and visitors from around the world, the Cantor Arts Center provides an outstanding cultural experience for visitors of all ages. Founded when the university opened in 1891, the historic museum was expanded and renamed in 1999 for lead donors Iris and B. Gerald Cantor. The Cantor’s collection spans 5,000 years and includes more than 38,000 works of art from around the globe. These include our renowned collection of Rodin bronze sculptures, which are displayed inside the museum as well as in our outdoor Rodin Sculpture Garden. With 24 galleries and more than 15 special exhibitions each year, the Cantor Arts Center is an established resource for teaching and research on campus. Free admission, tours, lectures, and family activities make the Cantor one of the most visited university art museums in the country.

Issue

How can Cantor Arts Center establish a fair practice for granting exclusive pricing within our custom programs?

Situation

Cantor Arts Center is a coveted space to host events and rental requests come in on a daily basis.  Often, requests come from other Stanford entities and are accompanied by an ask for special discounted pricing. Income from custom programs (aka event rentals) is a significant source of income for the museum, but Cantor also has a desire to collaborate across campus and to be good neighbors. Cantor seeks to develop and enforce a fair practice for granting exclusive pricing within its custom programs.

Project Overview

Cantor is asking Stanford ACT to develop a framework and set of policies for consistently enforcing a fair practice for granting exclusive pricing within its custom programs. The ACT team will need to account for key variables including the type of event, which spaces are being used, the security and custodial needs, and the contours of any program or partnership.
